Sabres – Hurricanes Preview 12/22/16

TIME: 7PM est

WHERE: Key Bank Center, Buffalo

It was just five days ago that the Sabres took on the Hurricanes in Raleigh and tonight they’re back at it. Carolina came out with the 2-1 win, marking themselves down as another team that’s been able to capture the extra point against Buffalo in the crap-shoot.

The last time the Hurricanes made their way into Buffalo was a chilly afternoon in March that ended with overtime heroics from Jack Eichel. Any avid Sabres fan probably has this memory stick out to them as one of the best from last season when Evander Kane sprung #15 and he made no mistake sliding it five-hole on Cam Ward with just one second remaining on the clock.

The biggest shock coming out of Sabres practice Thursday morning is Jack Eichel being taken off the first powerplay unit. Marcus Foligno took his spot on the “peeper” as Eichel would call it, but i can’t see this lasting very long. Teams have been attached to the hip of Eichel on the powerplay knowing the kind of weapon he brings.

Players to Watch:

Evander Kane: EK9 has 6 goals in his last 8 games and seems to be playing with an extra jump in his step.

Rasmus Ristolainen: After another 2 point game against the Panthers, Ristolainen has 11 points his last 7 games. This ranks him 4th among all NHL defenseman trailing only Erik Karlsson, Brent Burns, and Vic Hedman.
