RECAP:

Coming off of a strong performance against the Dallas Stars the Sabres looked to continue their strong play against the red-hot Toronto Maple Leafs.

Freddy Andersen was forced to make a bad pass by William Carrier and the puck went right to Kyle Okposo who gave Buffalo a 1-0 lead. The goal was challenged for goaltender interference but the referees decided that it was a good goal.

In the last minute of the 1st period, Evander Kane continued to do what he does best and that’s scoring goals. Kane ripped the puck past Andersen to give Buffalo a 2-0 lead heading into the 2nd period. Kane has been great lately and has 12 goals in his last 21 games.

The Leafs came out very strong early in the 2nd period. Nazem Kadri put the puck on the net and then it hit Leo Komarov and then it deflected off of Jake McCabe into the net.

8 minutes later Matt Martin FROM THE BOARDS put the puck on net and it somehow managed to sneak past Robin Lehner to tie the game at 2.

Then a minute later Zach Hyman found Auston Matthews alone in the slot who then perfectly placed the puck in the top corner. Lehner was on his knees for some reason and the Sabres just simply had some terrible defensive coverage on that play. And then the Sabres decided to pull Robin Lehner in favor of Anders Nilsson.

Midway through the 3rd period, Zach Bogosian decided that it would be a nice time to take a holding penalty on Connor Brown. It didn’t take the Leafs long to score on the powerplay and James van Riemsdyk was somehow able to get the puck past Nilsson.

With 3 minutes to go in the game, Zemgus Girgensons found William Carrier crashing the net and Carrier cut the lead to 1 goal with minutes to go in the game.

The Sabres face the Detroit Red Wings on Friday night. Hopefully they can finally win an important divisional game.
