RECAP:

On Tuesday night against the Montreal Canadiens, the Sabres probably played their worst game of the season. They had to play a good game tonight against the New York Rangers to rebound after that tough loss. The Sabres haven’t lost to the Rangers yet this season and they are going to need Jack Eichel to have a big game tonight. Jack has 7 points in 5 games against the Rangers.

Pavel Buchnevich had a great chance to give the Rangers the 1-0 lead but Lehner robbed him. Buchnevich had almost the whole net open but he couldn’t put the puck in the net.

Evander Kane made a great pass to Brian Gionta but the captain just missed on the tap in. The line of Evander Kane, Brian Gionta, and Zemgus Girgensons has been fantastic since Dan Bylsma put the three of them together.

Overall that was a pretty entertaining 1st period. Both teams played with speed and there were a lot of chances.

Zach Bogosian was not on the bench at the start of the 2nd period. He didn’t return to the game because he had a mid-body injury which I’m assuming it’s another groin injury for band-aid Bogo.

Robin Lehner made another huge save on Grabner early in the 2nd period.

Late in the 2nd period, Marcus Foligno took a holding penalty on Rick Nash. Ryan McDonagh blasted the puck on Robin Lehner who had a few players right in front of him. The puck deflected off of Mats Zuccarello and the Rangers would walk into the 3rd period with a 1-0 lead. Lehner is not at that fault for that goal what so ever but I’m sure Sabres fans will find a way to criticise Robin Lehner anyway they can.

Jack Eichel made a fantastic pass across the ice to Sammy Reinhart but Reinhart just missed wide on the backhand shot.

J.T. Miller made a great pass to Grabner and Robin Lehner dove across the crease to rob Grabner. Lehner had a very good game tonight.

Late in the 3rd period, the Sabres finally tied the game at 1. Tyler Ennis carried the puck in the zone, the puck deflected off of O’Reilly’s stick, and the puck went right to Cody Franson in the slot and he ripped it past Henrik Lundqvist to tie the game. Cody Franson has 6 points in his last 6 games and that trade value is doing nothing but going up.

The game stayed tied at 1 and it would head to overtime. The Sabres have won 3 straight overtime games.

The Sabres had a couple very nice chances to win the game in overtime. Eichel made a pass to Kyle Okposo but he was robbed by the king. And Evander Kane went end to end but he hit the post.

The Rangers headed to the power play with a few minutes to go in overtime. Chris Kreider fed the puck to J.T. Miller and he gave the puck back to Kreider who then buried the puck into the Buffalo net to win the game for the Rangers.

The goaltenders were absolutely fantastic tonight. Lundquist was really the only reason the Sabres didn’t walk out of this game with a win tonight. The Sabres had a lot of chances but the king stole this game for the Rangers. Robin Lehner made 42 saves and he played great as well.It was very nice to see Pierre McGuire talk so highly about the Sabres tonight and he was very adamant about the positivity on the Buffalo bench. Even good old Mike Milbury had a few nice things to say about Jack Eichel. Also, Dmitry Kulikov played a very good game tonight. It’s very noticeable that his lower back is feeling much better. These last two games were for sure Kulikov’s best games as a Sabre. The Sabres will face the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night.
