RECAP:
The Sabres made a couple roster moves before this game. They waived Taylor Fedun because Cody Franson has returned from his foot injury. And they called Nick Baptiste up from Rochester because Sam Reinhart was out with the flu. This was the 1st game of the season where Buffalo had all 6 of their main defensemen healthy.

Vladimir Tarasenko ripped the puck past Lehner early in the game on a delayed Josh Gorges penalty.

Marcus Foligno made a beautiful spin move and tried to get the puck to Evan Rodrigues but E-Rod was hooked by Magnus Paajarvi.

The Sabres were close to scoring on that power play. Eichel went down the ice and fed the puck to O’Reilly but ROR just missed the net.

Minutes later, Nick Baptiste received a great pass from Jack Eichel and he beat Jake Allen to tie the game. With Jack’s assist on Baptiste’s goal, he now has 17 points in his last 17 games. And Evander Kane now has 14 points in his last 13 games.

Just 17 seconds into the 2nd period, Robin Lehner robbed Jori Lehtera with his pad to keep the game tied at 1.

Kane and Eichel had a 2 on 1 but Kane took the shot and rang it off the post.

Halfway through the 2nd period, Nick Baptiste gave the puck to Zach Bogosian, Bogo took the point shot, and Kane deflected the puck past Allen for his 20th of the season. Kane has 20 goals in 47 games this year. He had 20 goals in 65 games last year. This was Nick Baptiste’s 1st career multi point game.

The Sabres had a 5 on 3 power play at the end of the 2nd period. Ryan O’Reilly shot it past Jake Allen to give the Sabres the 3-1 lead going into the 3rd period. The Sabres would end up starting the 3rd period on the power play. Ristolainen notched his 100th career NHL point with an assist on that goal. He’s the 7th fastest defenseman in Sabres history to reach 100 points. That 2nd period was probably one of the best 2nd periods the Sabres have played all season. They are consistently terrible in the 2nd period and hopefully this is a sign of the things to come.

Jack Eichel drew another penalty late in the game. On that power play he took a shot from center ice and Jake Allen almost dropped it in his own net. Right after that Scottie Upshall blew past the slug, Cody Franson and slid the puck past Lehner on a short handed breakaway. This was the 2nd shorthanded goal the Sabres have allowed this season.

This was a huge win for the Sabres. The Sabres have now won 3 games in a row and it’s only the 3rd time they’ve done that this season. As of right now the Sabres are 1 point out of a playoff spot and if everything goes right the Sabres could be in a playoff spot by tomorrow night. The Sabres face the Chicago Black Hawks tomorrow night.
